Laura,
I will try my very best to explain Eid El Adha to you.

Eid El Adha is the day of sacrifice. It's quiet different from Eid Mubarak - in sense of the meaning. Eid Mubarak is the month (Syawal in the Islamic month) where the Muslim all over the world celebrate 'the day of winning' after a month of fasting (Ramadhan in the Islamic month) but for Eid El Adha, it is being celebrated only for a day (every 10th Zulhijjah in the Islamic month). It's the day of sacrifice. For those who can afford it, we are encouraged to sacrifice 'something' either cow, buffalo, goat or sheep to be given to either relatives or the unfortunate people around us.

Every month of Zulhijjah, you would see millions and millions of Muslim will go to the holy city of Mecca to perform Haj. Haj is one of the five pillars of Islam. And Eid El Adha only happened during the Haj period.

Brunei is a Muslim country hence any events of importance in the Islamic calender, we will have a public holiday for it.

I don't know if that helps ^_^ but I hope it does! Feel free to ask anything..
